Methodists United

Clark's Grove supports Methodists United with both workers and finances.  We see this as a tremendous mission outreach opportunity for our area.  Methodists United is a group of pastors and laity from Methodist Churches in the Shamokin, Elysburg, Paxinos, Miller's Crossroads and Trevorton areas working together to make positive changes in our community.  Some of the projects currently supported by MU with volunteers, finances and scholarships are:

Manna for the Many -  a local food bank located in the center of Shamokin to provide food for those in need.  They recently moved into a new, larger location to better meet the needs of the people.  They help to feed an ever growing number of families in the area.

Church Leadership Training -  events are geared toward teaching church officers, committee members, and prospective nominees what their responsibilities are according to the United Methodist Discipline.  Understanding your role is essential to combining responsibility and authority in an effective way to promote growth and positive change.

Joint Lenten Services and Pulpit Exchange Programs - a perfect opportunity for fellowship between churches.  The services rotate between churches and pastors speak from pulpits other than their own.  These are great community builders!

Habitat for Humanity - has finally come into our area.  The coal region desperately needs decent, affordable housing for hard working people who can't afford to do it on their own.  What a great opportunity for people to make a difference!

United Way -  of the Greater Shamokin Area is responsible for more programs than can be listed here.  One way that they stand out from the rest of our missions, is their focus on children through their sponsorship of education projects in our schools.

Service at the Cross - started many years ago for the Scouts at Clark's Grove.  It has grown into a community event.  Each year, the day before Easter, a large group of people hike to the cross (visible on the mountainside from Route 61 in Paxinos), for a worship service.  The crowd gets larger each year!

Disciple Bible Study Program - is very popular in the area.  We have found that having a center for class registration is very helpful.  With a large group of churches working together, people are able to find the class they want at a time that works into their schedule.

Ministry Intern Program - Methodists United is aware of the need for quality pastoral education.  To this end, MU has instituted an intern program to help prospective ministerial candidates "get their feet wet" while working closely with an ordained elder.
